OPEN WA~TER 2
A Facilitated Micro Lab Series
Last Saturday, every other month
OPEN WA~TER 2 is a series of Micro Labs taking place at SHD/ Studio Hammer Deich on the last Saturday of every other month, starting in September 2026. For each edition, one or two artists or groups are invited to share a work in progress, a sketch, an experiment or an open format.
Watch, reflect, exchange
Artists, colleagues, friends and curious visitors are invited to look at the material together and take part in the exchange that follows. The focus is not on presenting finished work, but on creating a shared space for practical and theoretical reflection.
Opening up artistic practice
After each contribution, an artist, dramaturg or other practitioner invited by SHD/ initiates and facilitates the conversation. The facilitator helps to open up questions, connect different perspectives and guide a collective reflection on the work, its methods and its possible directions.

Open Call
We welcome proposals from artists working in contemporary dance, choreography, performance and related practices. All formats are possible—we are looking for experiments, trials, juxtapositions and artistic risks. Each contribution includes a small budget of 400,00 €, preparation time at SHD/ and technical support as needed. Please send a short proposal at least one month before your preferred date to mail@studiohammerdeich.org.
About OPEN WA~TER
It began in 2024 as an open, largely uncurated series of monthly showings and try-outs. Building on our reflections from this first edition, the second edition places greater emphasis on shared inquiry, a clearer structure and facilitated exchange around each contribution. More about the first OPEN WA~TER series here.
The SHD/ Studio Hammer Deich and OPEN WA~TER 2 is funded by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media.
